Troy entered a full trials competition with two other boys from Canada. The older boy, Mitchell was the most incredible trials rider (kid) we have ever seen. He was able to hop on his back wheel, scale rocks with ease and throw his bike around like a pro.
I was a little worried for Troy since he’s never had any competition in trials but figured it would be good for him and he seemed very interested.
The trials course was great, 6 different stations from an urban setting, to deep forest riding and the hardest---a rock garden from a dry river bed.
It came down to the final section where Troy had to ride over some skinny wood over water. There was a fair amount of people watching and Troy was leading by one point. Mitchell cleared the section without putting his foot down and Troy knew to win he would have to do the same. He had not been able to do this section before without putting a foot down so he tried kicking out his back wheel to make a 90 deg. turn. Unfortunately, Troy hit a table and a lady’s leg and threw him off balance. He took a 1 point penalty and finished the section to tie the competition. Mitchell ended up taking the overall win since he had more “clean” runs and it was well deserved. Troy took 2nd and stepped up his trials skills more than I could have ever imagined.
Good luck to Mitchell at the Trials world championships in Japan, wish we could go!!
